Recently in mid-February 2021, our family took our first RV camping adventure around the Northwest coast. We traveled from Cannon Beach, Oregon, to Pacific Beach, Washington, and then up to the Salt Creek Campground next to Crescent Beach on the upper Olympic Peninsula. While we only spent a night in each place, every location was a great adventure and offered pleasant surprises.

Cannon Beach

As we were traveling via RV, we searched online and called around for a good RV park to stay at in Cannon Beach. Although there were several highly-rated RV parks in and around Cannon Beach, ultimately we decided on the Cannon Beach RV Resort. This RV park is centrally located just on the east side of the highway across from the main part of town and primary beach. Not only does it have a pool, hot tub, full facilities, and a gas pump, but it’s easy walking distance into town with all sorts of great restaurants and shops and of course the World famous Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock. Highly recommended.

Pacific Beach

While driving up the coast of Washington we were considering which of the many, many beaches and RV parks we might stay that night. The further north we got the more remote it seemed and we ended up staying at the RV park in the Pacific Beach State Park. This state park is conveniently located right in the town of Pacific Beach, and right along the beach with RV parking literally steps from the shore. Pacific Beach is one of those long, flat Washington coast beaches that go on for miles, and being able to park right alongside it and enjoy the salty sea air and view of the ocean from the camper was exceptional.

Salt Creek Recreation Area/Crescent Beach

We stayed at the Salt Creek Recreation Area – based on the recommendation of some friends – on our last night. This is a local county park and a little off the beaten path so you might otherwise overlook this place – but we were glad we found it. It’s nestled right along the rocky outcrops right in the middle of the northern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, and the western portion of the park overlooks Crescent Beach, where there is also an RV park. The park has a playground and fun hikes along the coast, with a great view of Crescent Beach, where we enjoyed watching the brave surfers try their luck in the cold wintertime surf.
